Niqabs: Modest Fashion And Utility

When choosing a niqab there are many factors to keep in mind such as Comfort, Breathability, Personal expression and Confidence. Often women just but the first one they see and then face the common issues like difficult airflow, irritation due to fabric, slipping ties or styling limitations. This guide will help you with all such problems

Niqab Fabrics and Science:

When it comes to niqab, breathability is the single most important factor, especially in hot areas like Pakistan, because let’s be honest if you can’t breathe in it then no matter how well it looks or how sophisticatedly it’s stitched, it’s useless. So here’s the list of Fabrics that we have tested which work better than others.

  • Chiffon
The most breathable fabric, lightweight, sheer best for summers or indoors. Allows excellent air flow but less structure.

  • Crepe
A tad bit heavier than Chiffon, so it offers better durability and drape. Often used for daily wear and moderate climates, the airflow provided is less than Chiffon but you wont feel the difference much

  • Satin
Same as Crepe in weight but lower breathability, so a lil pro n con situation here because it has wrinkle resistance capabilities and trust me, you want that. You will only notice the decreased air flow on heavily humid days other than that its a very great option.

UV Protection and Heat Regulation:

Another added benefit of niqabs is that it will protect you from becoming a multi-skin tone person, where your face is darker than your neck and even hands or feet in most cases (yes, it’s really awkward). Darker Niqabs like Black Niqab not only protect from sunlight but also from heat, as you know in Pakistan the sunlight can give you a pretty bad sun tan. So to protect yourself wear a niqab when going out.

Types of Niqabs:

As the ever booming trend of modest fashion because a lot of women pair niqab with Abaya or Hijab, essentially making the niqab also trendy in islamic fashion. There are lots of types of them now and here’s what they are for:

  • For Daily Wear
Work environments or extended use, always go for single layer or breathable two panel design (preferably Chiffon), tie back styles instead of Tight elastics
  • For Travel
As travel clothing demands versatility, so go for fold compactly without creasing (Satin). Dries quickly after washing and a tie back for comfy fit during long walks
  • For Formal Events
As these are worn for a shorter amount of time, this allows you to get creative. We would suggest Two layer or Saudi Style Niqab, choose heavier fabric for structure and smooth drape (Crepe or Satin)

How to Wear a Niqab:

Now that you know how to select a niqab according to your needs, now is the time to know how to wear it to ensure maximum comfort:

  1. Position it according to the eye opening, below the brows
  2. Upper ties, wrap them behind your head with a flat knot
  3. Make sure it’s not tight, just snug.
  4. Adjust according to temples and the dress your wearing

Niqab Styling Tips:

Pair flowy niqabs with structured abayas, match color according to under tones, avoid bulky pins that distort fabric drape. Often fabrics used in combination are:

How to Wash Your Niqab?

To keep it durable and running for many years follow these steps:

  • Hand wash with cold water
  • Mild detergent
  • Do not twist too much
  • Dry via flat hanging
  • Store flat or loosely folded
  • Do not pin during storage to avoid snagging
  • Keep away from direct sunlight

Our Niqab Design’s Philosophy:

We designed our niqabs from testing and real world experience rather then just theory. Before production we have tested our prototypes in immense Heat of Pakistan that can reach up-to 50°C, moreover we have closely listened to women who wear niqabs on a daily basis and here are our findings:

  • Tight Elastic designs caused headaches
  • Elastics wears out quickly (looses its elasticity)
  • Heavy Fabrics such as Silk, layered polyester blends trapped heat
  • Poor big cuts often slipped constantly

So according to the data we found, here is how we tackled the problems:

  • Tie-back design
  • Airy balanced fabrics
  • Precision eye openings for air flow
  • Cut and stitches aligned according to most face shapes

Conclusion:

Our motivation was to make niqab not feel like a burden, so more people would adapt to it, by deeply understanding and applying the science of fabrics and stitching, we are able to make niqab a beautifully modest lifestyle.
